What is
Lose the Ego.
Lose the Ego is a practical, honest guide to what real team leadership looks and feels like, built on a simple premise: the biggest thing standing between most leaders and a team that truly follows them isn't skill or circumstance. It's ego. Not the loud, arrogant kind most people picture, but the quieter kind that avoids difficult conversations, takes credit without realising it, and mistakes control for confidence.
Drawing on over 40 years across football, business and community leadership, it sets out the principles of Earned Authority: leadership that is built through consistent behaviour, genuine service to the team, and the discipline to put people before ego. Not a theoretical framework. Lived experience, written down.
"Not how do you lead a team, but what is getting in the way of you doing it well. The answer, more often than not, is ego. Not the loud, arrogant kind most people picture. The quieter kind that avoids difficult conversations, and mistakes control for confidence."Darren J Anderson · The Ego Audit, Volume Two
The Art of Leadership: Lose the Ego
Three volumes, brought together in one book. Volume One tells you what to do. Volume Two asks you to look honestly at why you might not be doing it. Volume Three shows you it works everywhere you lead.
The Art of Team Leadership: Lose the Ego
The foundations. A practical, honest guide to what real team leadership looks and feels like, what it asks of you, and what becomes possible when you get it right.
The Ego Audit
The harder question. Five quiet ego habits that get in the way of good leadership, and the daily audit built to catch them before they cost you your team.
From the Touchline to the Boardroom
The same principles that govern a Sunday morning football pitch govern a Monday morning business meeting. Not similar. Identical. This volume proves it.

Darren J Anderson is a leadership developer, coach, and author with over 40 years of experience working with teams across sport, business, and community settings.
His career began in football, where a career-ending ACL injury sustained while playing in the USA redirected his path from player to coach, and ultimately to leadership developer. That transition shaped a philosophy built on a simple, consistent belief: that the most powerful thing any leader can do is get out of their own way.
Darren has led and developed teams across sports development, social enterprise, health and wellbeing, and community leadership. He has owned and operated his own businesses, worked at Managing Director level across several organisations, and built a reputation for direct, practical leadership development that meets people where they are, rather than where a textbook assumes they should be.
The Earned Authority Series draws directly on that journey. The mistakes, the habits, the blind spots, and the uncomfortable self-examination that changed how he led. Not a theoretical framework. Lived experience, written down.
